Drywall Installation & Repair in Bethesda and Rockville
Walls and Ceilings That Disappear Into the Room
Good drywall work is invisible — what you notice is paint laying down evenly and light raking across a ceiling without ripples. Our finishers handle everything from a single patch to hanging and finishing entire floors during a home remodel or basement build-out, including the framing and blocking repairs behind the wall when a doorway moves or a sagging ceiling needs new support. Most projects finish with our painting team priming and coating the new surface, so one crew owns the wall from stud to final color.
What's behind DMV walls varies by decade, and the repair has to match. Pre-1960 homes in Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and DC are mostly plaster-and-lath — patching them like drywall guarantees the crack returns, so we re-anchor with plaster washers and skim-coat instead. The 1960s-80s split-levels of Rockville and Silver Spring bring seasonal stress cracks from the region's expansive clay soils and humid-summer/dry-winter swings. Finished basements anywhere in Montgomery County get moisture- and mold-resistant board, and where a wall meets critical natural light — common in open-plan renovations — we spec a Level 5 skim finish so low-angle sun doesn't telegraph every joint.
Planning bigger changes than a repair? Wall and ceiling work is often the first step of a larger renovation — stop by the iDesign showroom in North Bethesda to talk through the whole project. Plan a visit to the showroom any day of the week.

Because iDesign is a full remodeling contractor, our drywall work comes with the trades behind it: if your ceiling stain traces back to a plumbing leak, or a crack turns out to be a framing problem, the same company diagnoses and fixes the cause instead of patching over it. That's the difference between a repair that lasts and one you repeat every spring. We've completed 2,700+ projects across Montgomery County and the wider DMV over 25+ years, and our crews are licensed and insured.

Frequently Asked Questions About Drywall & Plaster
My older home has plaster walls. Can you repair those?
Yes. Most pre-1960 homes in Bethesda, Chevy Chase, and DC have plaster-and-lath walls, which need a different approach than drywall: plaster washers to re-anchor loose sections, bonding agents, and skim coats rather than simple patches. We repair plaster properly and can also overlay or replace failing plaster with drywall where that makes more sense.
Why do cracks keep coming back above my doors?
Diagonal cracks at door and window corners are usually seasonal movement: the DMV swings from humid summers to dry winters, and the region's clay soils expand and contract with moisture. We repair these with setting compound and fiberglass mesh rather than spackle, and flag any crack patterns that suggest a real structural issue instead of cosmetic movement.
Can you remove popcorn ceilings?
Yes, with one caveat: textured ceilings applied before the mid-1980s can contain asbestos, so older ceilings should be lab-tested before any scraping. If the test is clean we scrape, skim, and refinish to a smooth ceiling; if not, we coordinate safe handling before the work proceeds.
Do you handle small drywall repairs, or only big jobs?
We take small jobs. Patches, ceiling stains, and door-handle holes are scheduled efficiently, often grouped so a finisher completes patching, sanding, and priming across multiple repairs in one or two visits. Many clients have us paint the repaired walls in the same trip.

What Our Clients Say
Five-star reviews from homeowners across the DMV area.
Kitchen Remodel & Custom Addition
This was our fourth project with iDesign in the past couple of years, and they impress us every time — the office responds quickly and the crews show up when promised. For our full kitchen renovation and custom addition, the showroom team explained every phase and worked in everything on our list. They even matched the paint and style of the addition to the rest of the house, something other contractors had told us was impossible.

Multi-Room Home Remodel
iDesign made our dream home happen. Coordinating separate contractors for a multi-room remodel had been a struggle, but working with one design team and their own crews took all of that stress away. Communication was excellent from start to finish across nearly 2,400 square feet of renovation — including the kitchen, which had felt overwhelming before. We are grateful to the whole team.

Full Condo Remodel
Our condo received a stunning top-to-bottom remodel: a flawless kitchen transformation, a bathtub-to-shower conversion, popcorn ceiling encapsulation, and new recessed lighting that brightens the whole space. The craftsmanship is exceptional, and the customer service made a major renovation completely stress-free.

Second-Story Addition & Rental Prep
We were on a hectic timeline preparing our house as a rental before moving out of the DMV, and we could not have navigated it without iDesign. They built a custom second-story addition, replaced the kitchen backsplash, installed a new bathroom vanity, and repainted several rooms — and they connected us with a licensed architect for the DC permits, which saved us a huge headache. Their attentiveness and input were invaluable.

Emergency Repair & Bathroom Remodel
When water started leaking through our ceiling one morning, the iDesign team and their plumber were at our house within hours and quickly traced it to a pipe under the bathroom floor. The price they offered was so good that we ended up redoing the entire bathroom. The work was wonderful, finished quickly, and barely disrupted our routine — we would call them again without hesitation.
